Does our voting system work? Are the right people governing us? Or are they simply as collection of unemployable chancers? Has it always been so?

Would a different system get better people where we need them? Could it move us away from the party politics that appear to serve no-one other than the parties themselves who swing from boom to bust regularly?
What if….
Everyone had one vote, but some had more votes based on the amount of tax they paid?
Or
Those that face demonstrable prejudice had votes that carried more weight?
Or
We randomly select a few hundred citizens like we do for jury service?
Would any of those produce better outcomes? Who knows? But where’s the evidence showing brilliant outcomes with the current system?
Tweaks to what we have already simply feels like, excuse my French, pissing into the wind.
We really need radical change.
