It is peculiar the lengths we go to get in the way of ourselves.
The thoughts we have about what we can and can’t do, will or won’t like, backed up by the scantiest of evidence.
Take getting better at something. It needs practice, but the thought of practice for many is boring.
It turns out that actually practicing is not boring – but the thought of it being boring stopped us in our tracks.
To get from moderate, to good, to great, to elite is a matter of practice – it’s not a magic trick.
Practicing is way less boring than thinking about practicing, and come with the added benefit of getting better at something and feeling a sense of achievement.
Yet, because the thought “boring” is so strong, we rob ourselves of our own potential success.
