Finding my voice
I don’t know about you but I find my thinking advancing and regressing, shifting all the time.
The voice in my head seems always to be trying to find itself.
So I write things down – it seems to distil my thinking. What starts off as 500 pages of words can soon be distilled to half that, without losing meaning or impact.
Challenging questions from clients aids me greatly too. Being put on the spot and having to justify or think about something can produce some quite surprising results. But only if I start with a clean sheet of mental paper. Starting with preconceptions means the output is less sharp, less trustworthy.
What you are reading now started off quite differently in my head and in my notes from three days ago.
I tried to go back to where I was then but it just wasn’t happening.
Better to surrender to what wants to be I think.
It was meant to end with “Do we ever really find our true voice? Or is it always a work in progress?”
But it hasn’t. This is to do with surrender isn’t it?
It’s one thing….
….to have an opinion.
It’s entirely another to act as if it’s right.
