The Power Of Thought
Thoughts don’t come with power we have to give them it. Only with power can they have us act.
We are not innocent bystanders in this process.
It’s the oxygen of attention that gives power to thoughts.
In that way it’s our choice which thoughts we give attention to and therefore empower.
We would do well to pay attention to which thoughts we pay attention to.
Motivation
There is no perfect way of paying someone for the work they do. But how they are paid surely motivates them.
- Salaries motivate people to turn up, but perhaps they are not entirely there.
- Paying by the hour means you pay for the effort, but perhaps things will take longer than they should.
- Commission earnings reward successful sales, but perhaps at the cost of completely honesty.
- Fixed fees mean the work should be completed as quickly and as efficiently as possible, but perhaps the quality drops sometimes.
There is no right or wrong method of payment – one is not objectively “better” than another.
It still comes down to what feels like the right thing for you, and the person charging the fee.
But it’s always worth bearing in mind how they will be paid – it’s highly motivational and, perhaps, contrary to your best interests.
