If you were a student in the early 90s “Paint it black” is firmly associated with the TV show “Tour of Duty”.
“Tour of Duty” always seemed to be on when we fell through the front door at X am.
Until I googled it for this I had no idea who was in it.
And I still don’t, except Lee Majors and Carl Weathers were special guest stars.
And now I feel rather guilty that I’d had a crème de menthe too many to appreciate their excellent acting back then.
Of course, if you’re of a later vintage the song is the song is the song. And I imagine it’s still being performed by the Stones although perhaps not so energetically…
And that was all a pre-amble really to get the point – human ingenuity.
Human ingenuity is a truly remarkable thing, there are literally no bounds. The things we haven’t yet thought of are mind boggling.
A scientist/astrologer on the radio was talking about us barely knowing a jot (yet) about the universe. Something like 4% if we are lucky.
But the brains that be had come up with a great solution to a real problem.
He reckoned that we could paint any asteroids destined to collide with earth black.
That would change the sun’s effect on the deadly rock, thereby changing its trajectory. And possibly saving Earth.
What a terrific idea – I bet they weren’t on the crème de menthe when they came up with that one…
